Biography

Described by the Ann Arbor Observer as a “pure and focused” [voice], soprano Imani Mchunu Grosvenor has enjoyed performing opera, operetta, musical theatre, and concert works in Europe and North America since her debut with the University of Michigan Opera Theatre at the age of 19. Notable performances include Emmie (Albert Herring), Papagena (Die Zauberflöte), Zerlina (Don Giovanni) Laetitia (The Old Maid & the Thief), Elsie Maynard (Yeomen of the Guard) and Patience (Patience), Sarah (Ragtime), Adina (cover, L’Elisir D’Amore) with the Phoenicia International Festival of the Voice https://www.phoeniciavoicefest.org/ , and opera scenes at the Kennedy Center for Performing Arts.

Whilst living in Germany, Mchunu Grosvenor made her concert debut at Laeiszhalle Music Hall and placed second in a competition with the Meisterkurs für Liedgesang in Husum. Mchunu Grosvenor is the winner of the 2019 MuTeor sponsored local voice competition with the National Association for Negro Musicians and most recently received the runner up award in the University of Michigan Friends of Opera Competition. Ms. Mchunu Grosvenor is currently a masters’ student at the University of Michigan and will perform the role of Amore in the School of Music’s spring production of Orfeo ed Euridice.
